It is a program that promotes knowledge about cultures and societies outside the United States based on empirical and site-specific research. This program promotes research while the student is in a specific geographic region.
Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships for minorities
This scholarship program will identify individuals with demonstrated ability and provide them with the opportunity to pursue studies leading to a Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Science degree. The goal of the scholarship is to inspire other students to pursue an academic career in teaching or research.
Fulbright

Teacher Education Award: Sharon Christa Mcauliffe Memorial
This aid is for Maryland residents who are enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university as a graduate student. In these cases, you must agree to work as a full-time teacher in a Maryland public school in the critical shortage area.
You must work one year for each year of the award or pay the scholarship with interest. To apply for the scholarship, service must begin within 12 months of graduation.
Scholarship for delegates and senatorial scholarship
It is available to full-time, degree-seeking graduate students who are Maryland residents. For these scholarships, the FAFSA must be filed by March 1 and the state senator or delegate contacted for instructions.
Scholarship for minority teachers or special education services
This is a scholarship that is specifically targeted to students defined as Black or Hispanic who reside in Indiana and are seeking teaching certification, special education teaching, or certification in physical or occupational therapy.
Judith and Williams Borten Scholarship
This is a scholarship for Junior or Senior undergraduate students who are preparing for a career in secondary education in the state of Maryland. To apply for this UMES scholarship, you will need to submit an essay of no more than five pages for the application, a copy of your transcript, a letter of reference, and any supporting materials.
Marilyn E. Mathes Memorial Grant
It is a UMES scholarship that was established to honor the educator who worked in St. Mary’s County Public Schools for 35 years until her passing in 2007. Ms. Mathes enhanced educational opportunities for children with disabilities by developing a program and services to address individual needs.
This is a grant that is especially geared towards obtaining highly trained teachers and having a more qualified staff in St. Mary’s County.
Teacher Scholarship Fund Endowed by the BHD
Interest-free loans, scholarships, or grants are available for graduate students enrolled for a minimum of 9 credits per semester. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is required.
Adjusted gross income must be less than the Maryland state median income of $91,000. Note that parental income for single graduate students will be evaluated on an individual basis.
