T-Mobile offers different types of protection for cell phones. Depending on the type of insurance proposal, you can have access to a higher or lower level of security.
It will also depend on the phone and contract, distinguishing between prepaid and contract phones. These three insurance products are as follows:
– Protection 360
– Basic Device Protection
– Premium Handset Protection
Coverage and prices are different if you choose one or the other.
T-Mobile Protection 360
This would be the most comprehensive mobile phone insurance offered by T-Mobile. It provides coverage ranging from mobile malfunctions to accidental damage, loss, and robbery. It also protects the standard charger, standard battery, and, if applicable, the SIM card.
It should be pointed out that, in the insurance coverage, in the accidental damage section, which other insurance policies do not contemplate, two very important elements can be included:
- Water damage
- Broken screens
These are two of the most frequent incidents involving mobile phones, which, however, are not always covered by insurance.
Mobile phone accessories are only insured in case of loss or theft. Therefore, the damage of any additional accessories is not covered. Finally, it should also be pointed out that this insurance includes the option of AppleCare for a limited period of time (24 months) for iPhone users.
It is also to be noted about T-Mobile Protection 360 that it does not cover intentional or aesthetic damage. It does not provide cover for damage due to abuse or misuse or cover damage due to fire. These are usually situations that are not included in the mobile insurance policy.
On the other hand, they will not cover damage caused by pre-existing conditions or repairs at any non-authorized provider. Furthermore, claims limits and excess do not apply when a device is not working properly.
However, a $5 fee applies for processing a replacement phone. For accidental damage, depending on the phone make, excess can range from $10 to $100. It is important to carefully review the application of excess based on the type of phone you have when buying this insurance.
The insurance rates will vary depending on the device and range from $7 to $15 per month. The maximum allowance of the insurance is three accidental damage claims in one year.
T-Mobile Basic Protection Plan
This is a Basic Protection Insurance. In this case, the coverages that can be included are:
● Accidental damage, with broken screen and water damage included.
● Loss and theft
● Malfunction (apart from exceptions indicated by the insurance)
Coverage includes the phone, charger, battery, and, if applicable, the SIM card. All other accessories are only covered in case of loss or theft.
This plan is limited to a maximum of two claims in 12 months. From the point of view of determining the coverages, this restriction is the same as in Protection 360. Therefore, it does not cover damages related to:
● Fire
● Improper use
● Intentional or aesthetic damage
● Pre-existing conditions
● Unauthorized repairs
In this case, the plan applies only to a maximum of two claims per year and does not include the additional services offered by the T-Mobile Protection 360 coverage. On the other hand, excess can vary greatly depending on the type of phone, ranging from $10 to $250. It is important to keep it in mind in case of accidental damage or loss and theft.
The cost of this insurance service is slightly lower than the 360: it can cost, depending on the phone, around $6 to $14 per month.
Premium Handset Protection
This is T-Mobile’s proposal to insure prepaid mobile phones. In this case, it should be noted that this is an exclusive offer for prepaid customers and cannot be applied to contract phones.
Includes the possibility of making two annual claims. It covers the phone and the battery and charger (as long as they are standard) and can also cover the SIM card. Like the other insurances, accessories are only covered in case of theft or loss.
The coverages are basic for this type of insurance, including malfunction (without pre-existing damage), broken screen and water damage, loss, and theft. The franchise can range from $20 to $175, depending on the specific phone. The cost can be around $8 per month regardless of the type of phone.
