The acceptance rate is an important factor for Dashers at Doordash. However, it is not always clear how this rate influences professional performance.
We will try to explain as clearly as possible what aspects of the job the acceptance rate will affect and how it will do so.
What is the acceptance rate?
When you don’t know the inner workings of Doordash, you might think that the acceptance rate is something like a measure of the user’s delivery quality level. That is not the case at all. It is a measure of acceptance that Dasher itself decides.
When working with DoorDash, you can access a dashboard to view your order requests. That is a very important panel because it will display information such as the delivery distance, the restaurant, the items that make up the order, and the profit.
Accessing this panel makes it possible to accept or reject the order. In other words, a delivery person has the power to select which orders he wants to take on or which he does not want to take on. That is where the acceptance rate comes into play. The acceptance rate is the percentage of orders the delivery person will accept from the total number of orders.
For example, if a Dasher receives 1000 orders per month and accepts 750, his acceptance rate is 75%.
How much does the acceptance rate influence a Dasher’s acceptance rate
One important thing to remember is that the order acceptance rate has no direct impact on a Dasher’s job options. That is very important as there can be a perception that the company may choose to penalize the person with a low acceptance rate, which is not the case.
Especially for new drivers, it is important to remember that it is unnecessary to accept all orders (from a job stability point of view).
If we analyze DoorDash’s policies, we see how there are other behaviours or rates that can penalize or even end in expulsion. For example, poor user ratings, order cancellation, and repeated late deliveries: are reasons that can push DoorDash even to ejection from the job. However, a low acceptance rate does not.
In other words, it doesn’t matter if you have a high, medium, or even low acceptance rate.
However, we should not forget that some parameters can qualify your performance in the eyes of the company. The three most important are as follows:
- Maintain an average customer service rating of 4.2 or higher.
- Have a completion rate on accepted orders of more than 80%.
- No continuous delays in deliveries.
These ratings are updated on a rolling basis based on the last 100 reviews submitted by the driver.
Do not confuse the completion rate with the acceptance rate
That is a really important aspect. These are two completely different things. The acceptance rate is the volume of orders you accept when they come to your order screen. As we have seen, this rate will not influence your status in Doordash.
On the other hand, the completion rate corresponds to the number of orders you accept and deliver. It should remember that in DoorDash, the Dasher can reject an inquiry he has previously taken. Although it may sometimes be justified, that is not a well-qualified action on the company’s part.
Top Dasher
That is a reward program for top dashers. It offers certain benefits and advantages based on some specific criteria.
In this program, it is important to have a certain acceptance rate. It would be best if you had a rate of at least 70%. That is, you should accept seven orders out of 10 that are requested.
That is not the only condition for this program:
- You must have an average customer rating of 4.7.
- Your completion rate must be 95% or higher.
- You must have made at least 200 deliveries.
- You must have made at least 100 deliveries or more in the month before joining the program.
Therefore, we could say that, although the acceptance rate does not directly influence your position within DoorDash, it can impact your access to certain benefits and programs such as Top Dasher.
High Payout Orders
That is a pilot program just added in June 2022 in which some driver profiles can access higher paying orders.
The two conditions for this program are an average rating of at least 4.5 stars and an acceptance rate of at least 50% of the previous 100 orders.
