Has it ever happened to you that you accept an order, and when you look at the products and the price, you find it strange? This is due to a strategy used by diners who are actually catering orders that are ordered at a particular restaurant but then scheduled for delivery via DoorDash. This leads to Dashers falling victim to under-tipping, leading to much lower earnings and a much lower wage than could be obtained by avoiding specific orders.
When receiving the DoorDash orders mentioned below, Dashers will take much longer, during which time they could be placing other orders and earning more money. However, the reality is that they put only one order and, therefore, much less money, which may even be a scam.
3 orders to avoid if you are a Dasher
There are several orders that, when you look at their quantity of products and the final amount of the order, this price/product ratio does not make sense. If you perceive something strange in your order, the best thing to do is to let it go and listen to your feelings. Anyway, this is just a recommendation to help you not to waste time and make more money (at least 200 dollars a day).
1. Large orders at low prices
Many users of the home delivery app often place tips that end up not being accurate or that end up being tiny about the number of items you bring to their door. For example, if a person ships an order with 30 items, but the final amount is $5, doesn’t that sound suspicious to you?
The best thing to do is to reject this order and wait for a new one, as DoorDash expert TikToker Bentley Koup recommended. The more items the order has, the greater the likelihood that the tip won’t match the order size. You’ll end up earning less for a job that could be lighter, such as carrying a fast-food order, rather than taking orders of 20+ items, as the tip will be the same (or less, or even nonexistent) than a restaurant order, where you’d only carry one bag, rather than carrying five or six bags with 30 items.
Bentley Koup recommends that you don’t trust an order whose final amount is less than it should be, or you notice that it has bulk discounts, “let it go,” due to the above mentioned, that orders are placed by other means than DoorDash, but then they schedule the delivery from the food application, which means that the chances of you getting tipped are much lower, as it depends on the customer at the time they receive the order.
So, you’ll make less money, your salary will be less, and you’ll have to place many more orders to compensate for what you lost on the previous order. In short, stay away from orders with many items, as you will earn a low salary.

2. Last order of your shift
Another item that Bentley highlights is the last order of the day since night orders usually pay more for each trip and tip. For example, if your last order is one to be delivered at 9:00 p.m. and it’s 7:45 p.m., don’t wait for the order to be placed. Continue with another one in the area. This way, instead of earning $70 (depending on the number of miles), you could earn $100.
So, you have to keep an eye on the numbers and do the math to see if it’s better to place one order for a larger payment than to deliver two smaller orders, which, if you put them together at the end of the day, you’ll end up earning more than with the “big” order.
Koup recommends this way of earning money for those who work only for DoorDash or who want to save, as this depends entirely on each Dasher, so it is convenient to calculate the tip money and the miles driven to get a number that is reasonable according to the work and effort of the driver.
3. Avoid slow restaurants
If you notice that the restaurant you need to go to for an order is running late, do not take the order, as many of these restaurants can delay you by telling you that the order will be ready in five minutes, but that time passes. You are still waiting for the order. They updated the delivery schedule again, but you noticed that it is still taking a long time.
Many restaurants do this because of the number of requests from diners, so it will take up a lot of your time when, instead, you could be placing other orders and making more money without waiting outside the restaurant for an order that was supposed to be ready 10 minutes ago.
Every second counts! Don’t waste your time, and start implementing these tips to make the most of your time and earn more money at the end of the day.
TIP: Try to get at least a dollar per mile to make the most of your work.
