Every year, supermarket chains seek to excel and win customers against the competition. In this case, Aldi is a chain that seeks to position itself as one of the best in the market, and its plan in 2024 is to gain more ground in the U.S. and Europe.
Although this chain was born in 1961 in Germany, 16 years later it would move to the United States and currently has more than 2000 stores and 25,000 jobs for the citizen.
It is worth noting that Aldi is not only reinventing itself with new stores but also Trader Joe’s with its new locations. All in all, I love these chains and they have my attention; in fact, I have also been doing some research on Ross’ return policy and Walmart’s theft. But in this case, I’ll focus on telling you what I found out about Aldi’s new openings.
Aldi’s influence in the United States for this year
Aldi may have a smaller selection of products compared to large supermarket chains, but it has earned the respect of Americans and represents an important point in the nation’s food trade.
Not only in the U.S. but also in Europe we can find these stores that are looking for an expansion every year and for 2024 only, in the U.S. they want to open 120 new stores.
These goals will represent Aldi’s expansion, in which in 2022 the company intends to open and remodel 139 stores. The new stores to be opened this year will bring the number of Aldi stores nationwide to 2,400, according to official company figures.
Where will these Aldi branches be opening?
While Aldi has not specified where the 120 new stores will be located, it did provide a little insight into which markets can expect to see some new locations. Such as:
- 1015 Schillinger Rd S, Mobile, AL 3669
- 20700 S Avalon Blvd Ste 103, Carson, CA 90746
- 28230 Clinton Keith Rd, Murrieta, CA 92563
- 2680 S Ferdon Blvd, Crestview, FL 32536
- 2009 W. Washington St., Greenville, MI 48838
These specific locations represent the next ones to open for the months of May and June, respectively, with the 18 that opened between March and April, the most recognized being the 2 in upstate New York.
For the months of July, August and September, openings and reopenings are expected in states such as California, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and South Dakota. For the last 3 months of the year, there is still no information on branch terminations.
In addition, the company stated that it recently opened a regional headquarters and distribution centre in Loxley, Alabama, to help support new locations in the area, and to help grow the ratio of employees to a specific function.
Aldi’s international claims for 2024
In addition to the United States, Aldi also has a significant representation in Europe, this year 2024 they have announced that they will open 100 new stores across the UK over the coming months and early next year.
The supermarket pledged to invest £1.3 billion by 2024 as it aims to further grow its retail estate in European territory.
Some locations where it is currently looking to open new sites include cities such as York and Coventry, as well as smaller towns such as Bicester and Hitchin.
Aldi currently has more than 900 stores across the UK and is looking to position itself higher up on the UK supermarket ladder with these moves.
The supermarket is looking for sites that are large enough to accommodate a 20,000 sq. ft. store and around 100 parking spaces to achieve its objectives, with easy access and operation for its customers.
In addition, Aldi will also invest in the development of new and expanded distribution centres in the European region. Some selected areas where we will see Aldi will be:
- South East: Bicester, Guildford, Milton Keynes
- South West: Cheltenham, Penzance and Plymouth
- West Midlands: Birmingham, Black Country and Coventry
- East of England: Basildon, Brentwood and Hitchin
- North West: Runcorn, Stockport and Macclesfield
- Yorkshire: South Bradford, Meadowhall and York
- Scotland: Cathcart, Dumbarton and Peebles
- Wales: Aberdare, Barry and Lampeter
Aldi and its growth in Spain
Its growth in Europe for 2024 will not only be based in the United Kingdom but also in Spain, with 50 stores of the brand soon to open. One store is due to open in Melilla in the middle of the year and new stores in Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Asturias.
The rest of the openings, which have been underway since February, will cover a large part of Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia and Valencia, with the aim of increasing its customer base and representing more square meters on Spanish soil.
