It is a college fraternity for men. It is also known as Lambda Chi, and its members as Lambda Chis, Lambdas, Choppers, Chops, and LCAs.
It is one of the largest fraternities for men in North America and is the first fraternity to eliminate pledging. Lambda Chi Alpha embraces men and empowers them to be better version of themselves.
The seven core values of Lambda Chi Alpha- duty, service and stewardship, loyalty, integrity, honor, respect and personal courage provide a moral compass for members. It visualizes the world where a man can pursue a life of respect and inclusion for all. It also envisions a world where the ideal man supports each other and make a positive impact on society. Lambda Chi Alpha’s mission is inspiring and equipping men to lead an ethical life of service, growth and leadership.
The fraternity values diversity, equity, and inclusion and considers them an asset essential to creating a better brotherhood and balanced organization. The five pillars of equal membership, leadership, diversity, equity and inclusion, total health and strength through service embody the cardinal principles of Lambda Chi Alpha that steer every action of the fraternity.
Lambda Chi Alpha is dedicated to enhancing the college experience and fostering leadership, mentorship, and relationship through the instruction of the fraternity’s history, values, and code of conduct and helps transform the lives of its men through networking and public, academic and financial support.
The colors of Lambda Chi Alpha are purple, green and gold. Its flower is a white rose. Its motto is every man a man. The symbol of Lambda Chi Alpha is cross and crescent.
Requirements To Join
The fraternity remains the sole authority of the requisites for membership in Lambda Chi Alpha. Following are the requirements to be eligible for membership in Lambda Chi Alpha:
- Persons who are not the member of any other national social college fraternity or any other local social fraternity.
- All initiates shall be students of college or university where a chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha has been established.
- To become an Associate Member, one must meet the academic requirements established by the Inter Fraternity Council. All associate members must obtain a cumulative GPA average of 2.70 or more to become an initiated member. Fall term freshmen must have a high school average of 3.25 GPA or better.
How To Join
To join the fraternity, a person may attend Formal recruitment in the early fall or early spring. A person can also contact a member of the fraternity to know the process of joining. An existing member or alumni can also refer a potential member.
How Much It Costs To Join
The room, board and chapter dues for all members living in-house are $4,400 per semester, and it is inclusive of Chapter dues of $500 per semester. The rent part of the house bill of new members who choose to live in chapter house is reduced by $1,000 through a scholarship from the alumni association of Lambda Chi Alpha.
If a member of Lambda Chi Alpha is currently living in a dorm and is willing to move into the chapter house, the chapter can also reimburse the member for the dorm contract break.
For Lambda Chi Alpha members who are in their 5th or 6th semester and are living in the chapter house, the house bill is reduced by $500 per semester. For members who are in their 7th semester or more, the monthly room rate is reduced by $1000 per semester. It is the way of rewarding men who live in the chapter house at Iowa State University. Dues for members living out-of-the-house are $500 per semester.
Each chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha may charge additional dues to cover local expenses.
