Lambda Chi Alpha was formed at Boston University in the year 1909. It is a college fraternity for men. It is also known as Lambda Chi, and its members as Lambda Chis, Lambdas, Choppers, Chops, and LCAs.
It is one of the largest fraternities for men in North America and is the first fraternity to eliminate pledging. Lambda Chi Alpha embraces men and empowers them to be a better version of themselves.

What are the requirements to join Lambda Chi Alpha
The fraternity remains the sole authority of the requisites for membership in Lambda Chi Alpha. Following are the requirements to be eligible for membership in Lambda Chi Alpha:
- Only individuals who are not members of any other national social college fraternity or any other local social fraternity.
- All initiates shall be students of college or university where a chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha has been established.
- To become an Associate Member, one must meet the academic requirements established by the Inter-Fraternity Council. All associate members must obtain a cumulative GPA average of 2.70 or more to become an initiated member. Fall term freshmen must have a high school average of 3.25 GPA or better.
How can you join Lambda Chi Alpha
To join the fraternity, a person may attend formal recruitment in the early fall or early spring. A person can also contact a member of the fraternity to know the process of joining. An existing member or alumni can also refer a potential member.
How much does it cost to pledge Lambda Chi Alpha
The costs to join Lambda Chi Alpha are as follow: the room, board and chapter dues for all members living in-house are $4,400 per semester, and it is inclusive of Chapter dues of $500 per semester. The rent part of the house bill of new members who choose to live in chapter house is reduced by $1,000 through a scholarship from the alumni association of Lambda Chi Alpha.
If a member of Lambda Chi Alpha is currently living in a dorm and is willing to move into the chapter house, the chapter can also reimburse the member for the dorm contract break. For Lambda Chi Alpha members who are in their 5th or 6th semester and are living in the chapter house, the house bill is reduced by $500 per semester.
For members in their 7th semester or more, the monthly room rate is reduced by $1000 per semester. This is how they reward those who live in the chapter house at Iowa State University. Dues for members living out of the house are $500 per semester.
Each chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha may charge additional dues to cover local expenses.
