Kappa Kappa Gamma is a women’s sorority that is also known as Kappa or KKG. It was founded in the year 1870 at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Kappa Kappa Gamma is a founding member of the National Panhellenic Conference.
The motto of Kappa Kappa Gamma is to “Dream Boldly. Live Fully”. In a nutshell, their mission is to seek lifelong friendships, support, opportunities for self-growth, intellectual development for every member and understanding and adherence to positive ethical principles.
The organization values intellectual excellence and seeks opportunities for self-growth. Each chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma encourages educational excellence, supports its members in overcoming academic challenges, and provides a conducive environment for all members to achieve academic success.
All members are expected to promote respect and integrity in regards to others. It values diversity and does not discriminate based on national origin, race, religion, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation.
Kappa Kappa Gamma’s badge of membership is the golden key. The badge is worn by initiated members only and is strictly worn as an emblem of membership. Its official colors are light blue and dark blue. The official mascot of Kappa Kappa Gamma is an owl. The official flower of the fraternity is a fleur-de-lis. Since fleur-de-lis is a mythical flower, an iris is often used in its place.
The jewel of Kappa Kappa Gamma is a sapphire, a symbol of truth, sincerity and constancy. The Coat of Arms combines all the symbols of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity: the key, owl, fleur-de-lis, the Greek letters, two blues, the new member pin, head of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom.
What are the requirements to join Kappa Kappa Gamma?
The minimum grade requirement to become a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma is at least a “B+” average in high school, and if you have completed a university or college term, then a GPA of 3.0 or more is required.
In the case of Alumnae membership, graduation is not a prerequisite, but the candidates must be or must have been enrolled in a four-year college experience.
How can you join Kappa Kappa Gamma?
A candidate willing to become a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma can contact the Panhellenic governing body at their campus as it organizes the recruitment activities for all sororities/fraternities on the campus. An individual can also contact the Greek Life office on campus or visit your college/university website to know when the recruitment process will be organized.
You can also visit Kappa Kappa Gamma’s website and express your interest in joining the sorority by filling the form online. Members can also refer a potential new member by filling a “Refer A Potential Kappa” form online.
Though a reference is not required to become a Kappa Kappa Gamma member, having a reference can help during the membership recruitment process. Any initiated member can write a reference, but undergraduates cannot write a recommendation to refer a potential candidate to their own chapter. A member should directly send references to the chapter’s Membership Chairman and submit references through Kappa Kappa Gamma’s online reference system.
