The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) has recently added new payment methods to facilitate transactions, especially since the advent of COVID-19 and quarantine. There are several payment options, either by going to a BMV office or by digital means, that suit users’ current needs.
One of the most notable additions as a payment method is the incorporation of electronic payment at all BMV Ohio offices. This means drivers can now make payments by credit or debit card at all Ohio BMVs, without carrying cash or checks.
This way of payment is not only intended to reduce the chances of possible cash theft, but also as a way to speed up the transaction process without having to wait for hours in an endless line. Below, we will tell you about the BMV Ohio payment methods so you can carry out your transactions safely and without wasting time.
BMV Ohio Payments Methods
Years ago, going to a BMV office with cash or checks was mandatory to pay vehicle fees or debts. Today, however, drivers can go to one of the BMV branches to pay with their credit or debit card. However, paying the fees with traditional payment methods (cash or check) is also possible at these offices.
Nowadays, the Ohio BMV has incorporated the latest technology for electronic payments, like sending money through PayPal, on its official website. Electronic payment is made from the comfort of your home or from anywhere you wish to. All that is required is a mobile device with an internet connection.

After logging on to the site, you can access online payment for various services, such as Driver’s License and Identification Card Fees, Vehicle Registration, Title and Reinstatement Fees, or even a Notary Public Fee. All this provides greater convenience and a better experience for users, who do not need to go to an office to pay their bills. Undoubtedly, a very convenient payment method for drivers, especially since 2020.
Another payment method that used to be used more frequently in years past was by mail, using money orders, or sending checks to the office. Although this payment method is no longer widely used, it is still in use, although, unlike other forms of payment, it has a disadvantage: it can take longer than expected for the payment to be processed.
Generally, when paying by mail, payment is estimated to arrive within 7 to 10 business days, so drivers who choose this method of payment will need to time the days to stay current with bill payments and avoid getting into debt that could have been anticipated. The driver should mail the fee in an envelope along with their BMV office file number or driver’s license number to the following address:
Ohio BMV.
Attn: REFEE.
P.O. Box 16520.
Columbus, OH 43216.
On the other hand, you can go to an Ohio BMV Express, a kiosk you can find in different strategic places in your county. You can carry out various procedures there, such as renewing registrations and paying the corresponding fees. All you have to do is scan the barcode with your smartphone and manually enter the requested information.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the BMV Ohio through its website or call (844) 644-6268 Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
