Alpha Omicron Pi was formed in 1897 at Barnard College in New York City. It is headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee. Alpha Omicron Pi is also known as AOII, and Alpha O. AOII is a women’s fraternity, and it is also a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.
In Alpha Omicron Pi’s Object of the Fraternity, it is stated that it is founded on the ideals of dignity, character, scholarship and college loyalty.
Alpha Omicron Pi’s purpose is to carry the spirit of love into the world. Alpha Omicron Pi is founded on the values of dignity and integrity and is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Its tagline is Inspire Ambition. Alpha Omicron Pi’s colour is Cardinal red. Its flower is Jacqueminot rose. Alpha Omicron Pi’s publication is To Dragma.
Requirements To Join
To become a new member of Alpha Omicron Pi and to remain its member, the scholastic average required by the chapter bylaws must be maintained by members. Chapters must require for pledging a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on high school grades. The chapters may establish higher GPA requirements for pledging new members if it is approved by chapter votes and included in chapter bylaws.
To become a member under Alumnae Initiate Program, a candidate must have an AOII sponsor whom the candidates know personally, and the sponsor must live locally.
Moreover, the candidate should not be a member of any other National Panhellenic Conference organization. The candidate should also be ineligible to be an undergraduate collegiate member in order to become an alumna member.
How to Join
There are several ways you can become a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. These are:
On a College Campus
You can become a member of Alpha Omicron Pi if a collegiate chapter exists on your campus. There are two ways, first, through a formal (primary) recruitment process. The second way is to join through an informal recruitment process or continuous open bidding if your college campus allows it. For more detailed information about the recruitment process, contact the Panhellenic Council or the sorority affairs office in your college or university.
Alumna Initiate Program
This program allows women who could not become a member of AOII during college an opportunity to become a part of AOII.
Recommend a Member to Join AOII
A woman can also become a member of AOII on the recommendation of a member of Alpha Omicron Pi.
Costs To Join
The fees and dues vary across each chapter and are specific to the chapter’s campus. The fees and dues depend on whether housing is provided or not and campus norms (Panhellenic dues, Greek Week, philanthropy events, homecoming etc.)
As an alumnae member, you will have to pay an annual fee of $35 (Life Loyal members pay $19).
To Join Life Loyal AOII as a member, you are required to pay a one-time fee of $299, and if you are a 50+ year member, then you are required to pay a one-time rate of $189.
