You probably already use the Apple Pay application if you have an iPhone. This application is a mobile payment platform that functions as an alternative to physical cards or cash when paying for a purchase.
As with all platforms that handle money, when using Apple Pay, there’s a possibility that you could get scammed and end up needing a refund. Luckily, it’s possible to receive a refund by following a few simple steps.
How to get an Apple Pay refund online?
If you want to get a refund for Apple Pay, you must first comply with the return and refund policies of the store where you made your purchase. Once you meet the requirements, you can begin the process to get your refund by providing additional information.
Some stores only ask for the receipt of the purchase. When you provide it, the cashier will automatically return the money to the card used for the purchase.
Other stores ask for more information such as the last four device account numbers. This number is different from your card number. You can find it on your device.
Using your iPhone or Pad, you must log in to your Wallet. Then you must tap the card that you used for your purchase and select the “More” button. You will be able to see your card number.
On the other hand, if you use your Apple Watch, you must open the Wallet App. Select the card you used for your purchase. Scroll down and tap to see your card number. The cashier needs these digits to find your purchase transaction and initiate the refund process.
After providing the digits to the cashier, re-enter your Wallet and tap the card. Press the right-side button on your iPhone, and you will need to authenticate using your passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID.
Keep your device near the contactless reader until the transaction is completed. It may take a few days for the refund to appear on your bank statement.
How to get money back from Apple Pay if scammed?
If an Apple Pay-based seller scammed you, don’t worry. There are several ways to get a refund and protect your account from being scammed again.
The first thing you should do is report the scam. Go to your Apple Pay app and the “latest transactions” option. Select the payment you want to report.
Next, tap on ”report a problem”, followed by the fraudulent merchant’s information. Finally, enter the scammer’s name, category, and anything else that might be relevant.
After reporting the scam, you should try to cancel the payment in case the scammer has not accepted it yet. If so, the money will be refunded in a few days.
First, you need to open the iMessage app, where you will look for the message with the Apple Pay payment. At the bottom of the menu, tap the cancel payment option. When you return to the messages, the payment should say “canceled“.
If you can’t find the message or it was deleted, go to “Application Settings” and then tap on “Wallet and Apple Pay”. You will need to select the card you made the payment with and look in the most recent transactions for the scam payment.
At the bottom of the menu, look for the “Cancel Payment” option. When you return to the messages, the payment should appear as canceled.
How can I protect my account from future scams?
The first thing you should do is update your passwords and enable 2FA. Choose a password with letters, numbers, and special characters of at least ten digits.
Enable 2FA using an authentication application other than SMS. You can try the Google authenticator or another one of your choice.
