Suppose you are considering starting using cell phone service with AT&T. In that case, you should first know all the information related to their security deposit policies and the rest of the requirements to take part in their membership.
Before committing to a carrier, you should know everything involved in your contract. That way, you can see the requirements to be met to enjoy the services.
What are AT&T security deposits about?
For new AT&T account holders, AT&T asks for a security deposit during the first year of service. The amount changes depending on your credit score; these payments can range from $250, which will be for customers with better credit, to $750.
The highest amount is for customers with credit scores below 600. To purchase AT&T services, it is not necessary to have an established credit score. However, it is considered when setting rates.
It is also possible that users with scores below 500 may find it difficult to purchase any of the available plans. In this sense, the security deposit only ensures that the provider will not lose money if the corresponding payments are not met.
The deposit will be returned when the account is fully canceled and has a legitimate claim for a remaining security deposit. Depending on the company, the refund may take up to 60 days.
Can I still purchase AT&T services despite having bad credit?
As mentioned above, you can still purchase any of AT&T’s services despite having bad credit. If the credit is very complex, you will only be able to access the company’s basic services.
Deposit recovery
After understanding that this is an obligation for all AT&T customers and that it is fully refundable, it is common to wonder how to recover the deposit after the corresponding time.
Refund when the service is active
The refund will be made in full once the service is not interrupted during the first 12 months. Once the time has elapsed, AT&T will send a check for the full amount of the deposit. You will send this to the address registered with the line.
You will receive the check within 15 days after the end of the 12-month cycle. If you have any questions, please call the customer service number on your monthly bill.
Refund when service is cancelled
Even if you decide to cancel your AT&T service, you should receive a refund of your security deposit if you have not suspended your service for non-payment. If there are outstanding funds, the deposit will be subtracted from the required amount and they will mail a check with the remainder.
It is convenient to allow five to seven days to receive the check, which is the reception time estimated by the company.
