Jobs do not always have the same professional requirements. Depending on the historical moment, there are jobs or sectors that may be more or less in demand. However, since the middle of the 20th century, there are three areas of work that have always been at the top of the most popular jobs.
It should be taken into account that the modernization of jobs is leading to major transformations. While agriculture was one of the main job creators at the beginning of the 20th century, it now represents a very small percentage of all jobs in the U.S.
However, there are some work areas that are adapting and even increasing in popularity over the years. Here are three types of jobs that are remaining and growing in the US labor market.
Insurances
Working in the insurance business has been one of the most demanded and highly valued careers.
Year after year, since the 1950’s, this industry has remained at the top of the list of preferences of people entering the labor market.
This has to do with a very important insurance market in the US. The volume of private insurance is very high. The importance of these insurances in the protection and prevention of Americans’ health is unquestionable.
Building
The US is one of the few countries in the world where the construction employment rate doesn’t change much. This stable situation, except for very specific periods such as the financial crisis of 2007, has to do with a market that is mature and in which property is valued as an asset and an investment.
Every year, the construction sector is one of the most in-demand jobs on the list. In recent years, jobs such as carpentry, electricity, and home automation have stood out as the most sought-after.
Healthcare
Healthcare is another of those employment sectors that are not only not falling but actually growing. Obviously, we should not take the data on the growth of healthcare jobs in the last two years as a reference, as the pandemic considerably increased the demand.
If we look at the curve of demand for health-related jobs over the last 75 years, however, we can see that this growth is truly remarkable.
This has certainly been helped by population growth, but also by new specialties. The development of new medical and healthcare systems and the increased sensitivity of the American people to their own health issues have also contributed to this.
Some of the most requested jobs year after year in the US in the healthcare sector are gynecologists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, and general practitioners, among others.
